Geology and Me

I took this photo during my Paleontology fieldwork in Laiya, Batangas. Look at that massive Andesite behind!

Hey, there! This is my first post in my little blog and I must tell you that it's exciting, calming, and heart pounding! It's like rolled into one extremely awesome sauce sushi roll! I've been meaning to start on this blog for a few months now but school kind of got on the way. I have tons of schoolwork piled up like a tower of pancakes! Btw, I'm Camie, Manila homegrown, and I'm currently attending university taking up Engineering Geology. Sounds a li'l bit geeky, right

But seriously, not much people know about Geology at all. It's like a covert way of being a scientist. Kidding. Yes, we do study rocks and minerals but we do so much more than that! We get to go out on mountains, localities we've never been to, places out of reach to most people, etc. Four years ago, me still being a wide-eyed teenager, I'd probably just stare at you blankly if you ask me what I wanted to do with my life. Geology thought me that there's so much more out there if you just look at the microscale of everything, In the past, I always observe at a standpoint where I can see the entirety of everything in my life with the nonchalance of other things. I learned soon enough that it won't get me very far. I started looking at things in detail, trying to pry open the doors of opportunity I've never imagined I would be doing. Geology showed me how beautiful the Earth is, how your feet can take you to places that will leave you dreaming, how cool is that?

Probably, the best part of being a Geology student is you get to go out and experience the world. Our way of learning isn't confined in a four-walled classroom. During our fieldworks, we get to go out and study the Earth and its history. Plus, it doubles as vacation! Kidding again! But we really do get free time once we've finished our work. So far, I'm close to my terminal year and I've been thinking of how much I'm gonna miss the life of being a student but I'm stoked for the future.

The funny thing is, when I was still in junior or senior high, I've never thought of taking up Engineering and much less Geology! Phew, life sure is funny as it keeps you on a high with its own surprises. So, if you're reading this and feeling a little lost, let me remind you that almost everyone's been there. Just try to hold on and soon everything will be a-ok. You'll be awesome in your own time. If you're currently still deciding what to take up on college, weigh in your interests. Seriously, pursue what you love even if other people tell you that you should go for the hot-high-paying-jobs out there. Trust me, if you do what you love, you'll never ever get tired of what you're doing! Strut that stuff and shine.

Croissants and kisses,

Camie
